Queenstown – So Much More Than a Ski Destination

If you’ve ever wanted to try skiing or boarding but not sure it’s your thing….or you want to get your partner hooked without breaking up……or you’re just a down right adrenaline junkie – Queenstown is the place to go.

Queenstown is known for its world class skiing and snowboarding, but it offers so much more than that. With the best in adrenaline pumping activities, luxury pampering, winery tastings and delicious local food, you will never be lost for something to do.

Sunset on Queenstown Bay

Even the most die hard of snow enthusiasts will take a day off the slopes to enjoy some of Queenstown’s offerings. The best part is, the NZSki Superpass will allow you ski and ride Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt – but, you’ve also got the flexibility to exchange a day on the mountain for one of the many non-ski activities around town. Activities range from heart stopping bungy jumping and jet boating, relaxing day spas and sightseeing tours or credit towards a range of restaurants, wineries and retail outlets.

Mixing drinks at ‘Minus 5°’

Adrenaline junkies need look no further than AJ Hackett Bungy, offering a range of swings, catapults, zip rides and bungys – including the famous 134m Nevis bungy. If you are going to do it, you might as well do it right, with incredible views and an 8.5 second free fall. If free falling isn’t your thing then KJet offer 60 minutes of spins and exhilaration of speeds up to 45km/h across three of Queenstown’s most picturesque waterways.

If you need to convince your partner Queenstown is your next holiday destination then make sure you mention the Onsen Hot Pools, the ultimate in relaxation and pampering. After a soak in your private hot tub with panoramic views, choose from a selection of beauty and body treatments. If this isn’t enough to convince them, maybe a dinner reservation at Amisfield Winery will do the trick. Set in a dramatic stone building and serving dishes that look like works of art and paired with local wines. This three hatted restaurant will have you jumping on the next plane!

If you’re weighing up a ski holiday or a sightseeing trip, then Queenstown has you covered with some of the most picturesque scenery in the world. The flight into Queenstown is enough to make your jaw drop – and that’s only the start. Hire a car and you can drive yourself through the breathtaking countryside or sit back, relax and join one of many tours. High on many people’s bucket list is the world famous Milford Sound, where you can experience waterfalls, fur seals and dolphins on the fjord. With coach, plane and helicopter tours available, there is an option for every budget.  Perhaps you’d prefer the unique landscapes of the Southern Alps as you travel through Mackenzie Country to Mt Cook, home to New Zealand’s highest peak, Aoraki Mt Cook.
