Using your Epic Australia Pass overseas

Have an Epic Australia Pass and looking to take advantage of it overseas? The Epic Australia Pass has opened up a plethora of resorts to explore internationally. There’s some amazing opportunities to optimise its usage. For example, purchasing the early bird Epic Australia Pass is cheaper than purchasing a 10 day lift pass at Whistler in resort.

Let’s explore arguably the best resorts overseas to use your Epic Australia Pass and what restrictions there may be;

Japan

Hakuba, Japan

Hakuba

Access: Five consecutive days with no blackout dates at Hakuba Valley

About Hakuba: Hakuba is a small village surrounded by the stunning mountains of the North Alps. It is arguably the most popular winter sports region in Honshu and is home to a number of snow resorts set against an impressive big-mountain backdrop. The resorts that feed into the Hakuba village area all have their own individual style, multi-resort and single resort lift passes are both available. Resorts within the Hakuba village area include: Happo-one, Iwatake, Tsugaike Kogen, Hakuba 47, Hakuba Goryu, Sun Alpina Hakuba Sanosaka, Minetaka, Norikura and Cortina. Close to Nagano, home of the 1998 Winter Olympics, Hakuba’s Happo One hosted the men’s downhill and super giant slalom as well as the ski jump and nordic combined events. Its high elevation and vertical rise make it the steepest of Japan’s resorts.

Epic Australia Pass Tip: As opposed to the standard all mountain passes which are flexible days, it’s important to note your 5 day access has to be consecutive days, no rest days in between. To gain access to the lifts, simply take your Epic Australia Pass and corresponding photo ID to the nearest ticket window to access the physical Hakuba Valley pass.

Rusutsu

Access: Five consecutive days with no blackout dates at Rusutsu

About Rusutsu: Rusutsu is something of an enigma in the snow world. Born of the 1980’s Japan ski resort boom, the expansive resort, spread across two distinct peaks, boasts two large, purpose-built hotels at its base and not much else. Inside one, the Rusutsu Resort Hotel and Convention centre, for example, exists a giant robotic talking tree and a full-sized carousel… But the real reason to visit is its incredible snow and playful tree-skiing centric terrain.

Less than a 40-minute bus ride from Niseko, Rusutsu attracts the same quantities of deep, dry powder, but doesn’t attract the same kind of crowds. Unusual for a lot of Japanese resorts, are Rusutsu’s large amount of hooded quad chair lifts, which are invaluable on cold and windy days.

Epic Australia Pass Tip: As opposed to the standard all mountain passes which are flexible days, it’s important to note your 5 day access has to be consecutive days, no rest days in between. To gain access to the lifts, simply take your Epic Australia Pass and corresponding photo ID to the nearest ticket window to access the physical Rusutsu pass.
