Trail Maps

Lotte Arai Resort is very different from most Japanese resorts, having been redeveloped in recent years with the powder hound in mind. The resort layout is one large bowl serviced by 5 high quality lifts, with a combination of groomed and ungroomed courses.

While the resort is predominantly intermediate with 45% of the terrain, I would argue it is geared more towards the advanced skier and boarder. The intermediate runs are mellow and long, with the longest 5.2kms, providing a real leg burn.

For beginners there are a couple of runs at the base of the resort, as well as a leg burner from mid mountain however not much else. They do have a fantastic ski school with English lessons available but I am not sure enough terrain for more than a couple of days.

For those that like the steep and deep then you are in luck, Arai offers 950 metres of vertical with above treeline terrain and avalanche controlled areas. There are large parts of the resort which are left ungroomed and offer wide open terrain to explore with relatively low risk. Ski patrol do an excellent job of keeping you safe so they are not happy when you duck robes or go out of bounds.

From the top of the resort, you can do a short hike to the summit for incredible views and even better ride/ski down, subject to it being open by avi patrol. Lotte Arai has a small park with a kicker and boxes, however the snow quality and terrain is so good I doubt you’ll need to visit it.
