  • Wakagiri
    Wakagiri can be found on the main walking street, Oyu Doru in the centre of town. It’s a favourite with locals and visitors serving delicious sushi, soba, udon, ramen bowls and local dishes. Food here is reasonably priced, has good vegetarian options, friendly staff and child friendly. Wakagiri is a good place for first time visitors and first time trying Japanese food. We recommend arriving early, or ask your hotel to make a reservation as can get very busy here.

  • The Craft Room
    At the base of the mountain, just below the gondola is The Craft Room. A popular spot for a coffee and bagel for breakfast & beers at the end of the day known for western style beer and chicken wings.

  • Juntos
    Juntos is a Mexican restaurant & Bar which serves delicious burritos with a Japanese twist. Juntos caters well for gluten free diets and has a good selection of tequila and cocktails to wash down your nachos.

  • Minato
    Minato specialises in hot pots, sushi platters and BBQ chicken skewers and remains a bit of a hidden gem in Nozawa. Reservations are essential as the people who do know it tend to go back during their trip. Minato is a lovely small restaurant with a great atmosphere. Dine at the bar or on traditional tatami seating surrounding a fireplace in the middle of the restaurant which adds to the warm welcoming ambience.

  • Genki Burger
    Genki Burger is a relative new comer to Nozawa, casual and delicious and good if you are missing a taste from home. Messy, juicy burgers served with great fries, (their loaded fries are even better!) enjoy eating guilt free after a hard day of riding. Tasty veggie options are available too and their tofu burger is very good. Tricky to seat a group but you can call or order online. You’ll find Genki Burger off the main street near Hotel Hause St. Anton (Jam Factory & Café). Genki opens from 3pm.

  • Ikemitsu
    Ikemitsu is a larger size eating house off the main street just downhill from the post office and able to accommodate larger groups. Authentic, tasty, home cooked meals such as Don, udon and rice dishes offering good value for money and you never have to wait long. Servings are hearty and have great flavours and known for serving some of the best gyoza in town and delicious ramen. Their Katsu chicken curry and fried squid legs are a must try too.

  • Hamacho Sushi
    A nice little place and only one of the very few places in Nozawa serving sashimi. No reservations are taken here and you do need to arrive early or else be prepared to wait for a table. Lots of restaurants open around 6pm, Hamacho Sushi opens around 4pm so you could always drop in for a starter and try somewhere else for dinner. Orders are made as they come in and the tuna and kingfish is very good. Seating area with tatami mats so no shoes allowed and if you can sit at the bar you’ll have a good view of the sushi & sashimi being prepared. We recommend the sashimi platter.

  • Billiken
    Like many Japanese restaurants, Billiken is cosy and friendly and feels like you have entered a friends’ home. Billiken is a 2-3 minute walk from the main walking street of Oyu Doru and a traditional Japanese Restaurant serving delicious thin crust pizza. Good rice dishes, ramen and pork dishes are tasty and reasonably priced. Arrive early and look out for the owners cats who like to lounge at the bar. Try their Japanese pizza with onsen boiled egg.

  • Akibitei Okonomiyaki
    Akibitei Okonomiyaki is a classic Japanese restaurant where the friendly and entertaining owner is also the chef. Okonomiyaki are Japanese savoury pancakes with meat, seafood or cabbage served with lots of awesome sauces, the pancakes are prepared in front of you. A fantastic little teppan bar serving inexpensive food and great beer and Saki. Nothing is fancy but you are sure to get an excellent meal at a great price served by a warm & happy family. Arrive early or be prepared to wait as this restaurant does not take bookings.

  • Winterland Taproom & Gyoza Bar
    The Winterland Taproom & Gyoza Bar might feel like a Japanese style restaurant in Australia but worth a visit due to the great atmosphere and delicious gyoza. A family friendly place where even the fussy kids will find something on the menu that they will like. Many say this is the best Après bar in town with over 10 great Japanese draft beers which are reasonably priced. Daily Happy Hour from 3-5pm.

  • Haus St. Anton Jam Factory & Café
    Located at the Hotel Haus St. Anton, the Jam Factory & Café is a very popular place to grab your daily coffee (some say the best in Nozawa). It’s a modern café specializing in jam made from fresh local produce, bread and the place to visit for other favourite sweet treats such as cinnamon scrolls and ice cream. A selection of gluten free cakes and a good place to watch the world go by. The café has become a bit of an institution for good steamed buns served outside in the street. You must try their pork or cinnamon apple buns.
